Is GEO different from AEO and LLM optimization?
They overlap heavily and are often used interchangeably. AEO targets direct-answer surfaces such as featured snippets and voice, GEO targets synthesized answers from generative engines, and LLM optimization (LLMO) emphasizes how a model represents your brand internally. In practice the same program serves all three.
Why the labels matter less than the work
Every one of these disciplines rewards the same underlying assets: an unambiguous entity, corroborated facts, extractable passages, valid structured data, and technically crawlable pages. Choosing between the acronyms is a positioning question, not an execution question.
Where they genuinely diverge
AEO cares most about single-passage extraction and snippet formatting. GEO cares most about which sources a generator selects and blends. LLMO cares most about what the model already believes about your brand without retrieval. A complete program measures all three separately.
